So I caught the midnight opening of Matthew McConaughey’s latest, and I’m horrified that I have to give it my lowest MattMac movie rating ever: 9.8/10. Of course, as usual, he charmed my pants off, making it awkward to leave the theater. There was just one horrible, damn near deal-breaking problem with the film. I have trouble believing that Matthew McConaughey has changed his playboy ways and discovered he is capable of truly loving a woman for the 15th straight film until he risks nothing by making a frenzied dash to the airport to intercept his love, thus not having to wait four days until she returns from her business trip with a safer, but boring and far less handsome man.
That climactic scene in all their movies where Hugh Grant and MattMac run to the airport after their love is entirely crucial in making the audience understand and believe the development of their characters. Sadly, this movie was missing that scene.
